Trademark renewal is the procedure carried out before TÜRKPATENT to extend protection for another 10 years before a registered mark's 10-year term expires. Under Article 23 of Industrial Property Law No. 6769 the term of protection is 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed indefinitely in ten-year periods. The renewal request is made within the final 6 months before expiry; if that window is missed, renewal is still possible at a higher fee within a 6-month grace period after expiry. If the grace period also passes, the trademark right comes to an end.
Three Windows,
Three Different Outcomes
What decides a renewal is not how fast the Office works but which window you are in. TÜRKPATENT is under no obligation to remind you when renewal is due; the responsibility to track it rests with the trademark owner.

How Is a Trademark Renewed?
Do Not Count the Term
From the Certificate
The most common miscalculation is to start the 10-year term from the date the registration certificate was issued. Because the examination, publication and opposition stages between filing and certificate can take about a year, a calculation based on the certificate shifts the renewal window by months.
