In 2026 the trademark renewal fee is TRY 8,730 for up to two classes; TRY 750 is added for each third and subsequent class. A late (surcharged) renewal, made after the renewal window has been missed and the term of protection has expired, costs TRY 15,420 for up to two classes. These amounts are the official fees paid to TÜRKPATENT, Turkey's patent and trademark office; if you work through a trademark attorney, a service fee is added separately.
In brief:
- The renewal fee is paid once every 10 years; there is no annual maintenance fee.
- The amount is calculated according to the number of classes; the base is a single price for "up to two classes".
- Delay is expensive: the surcharged rate is roughly twice the normal rate.
- The request and payment must be completed within the final six months before protection expires.
- The fee schedule is updated at the end of every year by a communiqué published in the Official Gazette; the amounts below have been verified against the 2026 schedule.
This article sets out the cost side item by item: the official fee schedule, worked examples, the effect of partial renewal on the fee, the payment steps and ways to save. You will find how renewal is carried out in our guide Trademark Renewal in Turkey: What It Is and When to Renew, and what happens when the deadline is missed in What Happens If You Miss the Trademark Renewal Deadline?
2026 Trademark Renewal Fees: The Official Schedule
The renewal items in TÜRKPATENT's 2026 fee schedule are as follows:
| Fee schedule item | 2026 fee |
|---|---|
| Trademark renewal fee (up to two classes) | TRY 8,730 |
| Renewal fee for each additional class (third and subsequent classes) | TRY 750 |
| Renewal fee for a trademark whose term of protection has expired (up to two classes) | TRY 15,420 |
| Each additional class for a trademark whose term of protection has expired | TRY 1,310 |
The schedule is renewed each year by a communiqué published in the Official Gazette around 31 December. Before carrying out the procedure, it is always good practice to confirm the current amount on TÜRKPATENT's "trademark procedure fees" page.
How Is the Fee Calculated?
The only variable is the number of classes to be renewed. The base fee covers the trademark's scope up to two classes; from the third class onwards, each class is charged separately. Whether the trademark is a word mark or a logo, whether its owner is an individual or a company, and the trademark's age or reputation do not affect the fee.
Worked examples (2026, official fee):
| Scope | Normal renewal | Late (surcharged) renewal |
|---|---|---|
| 1 or 2 classes | TRY 8,730 | TRY 15,420 |
| 3 classes | 8,730 + 750 = TRY 9,480 | 15,420 + 1,310 = TRY 16,730 |
| 5 classes | 8,730 + (3 × 750) = TRY 10,980 | 15,420 + (3 × 1,310) = TRY 19,350 |
The table tells you two things: the gap widens as the number of classes rises, and delay is the most expensive item in every scenario. For a five-class trademark, the cost of missing the window is TRY 8,370 — almost a second renewal fee.
What Makes Up the Total Cost?
1. The Official Fee
The fee schedule amounts above are paid directly to TÜRKPATENT. For renewal there is no separate fee for issuing a registration certificate, for notarisation or for additional documents; the basis of the procedure is the existing registration, and no documents are submitted to the file.
2. Attorney / Service Fee (If You Use a Trademark Attorney)
Trademark owners resident in Turkey can carry out the renewal themselves through EPATS, TÜRKPATENT's online filing system; in that case the only cost is the official fee. For those who prefer to work with a trademark attorney, a service fee is added to the official fee. A well-structured renewal service does more than fill in the form: it verifies the protection date, checks that the trade name and address entries in the register are up to date, supports the scope decision (full or partial) with advice and ties the next renewal period into the calendar. We explain the general difference that working with an attorney makes in What Is a Trademark Attorney?
3. The Late Renewal Difference (Only If the Window Was Missed)
The surcharged rate is not a "penalty point" but simply a higher fee, and its only cause is timing. The way to avoid paying this item is simple: renew as soon as the window opens.
How Do Fees Work for Partial Renewal?
A trademark can be renewed for only some of the classes covered by its registration. The fee schedule has no separate item specific to partial renewal; the fee is calculated under the standard schedule on the basis of the number of classes renewed.
This has two practical consequences:
- With three or more classes, the saving is real. Reducing a five-class trademark to three classes saves TRY 750 per class in 2026.
- Below two classes there is no saving. Because the base is a single "up to two classes" amount, reducing two classes to one does not change the payment.
The decision should not be made on the fee alone: protection in the dropped classes ends permanently, and if you need protection in that area again, a new application from scratch will be required. Dropping a class that is unused but has a place in your business plan in order to save TRY 750 is, more often than not, a bad trade.
How and When Is the Fee Paid?
- Timing: The request and payment are completed within the final six months before the date on which the term of protection expires. Filing only the request and leaving the payment until later invalidates the procedure — a renewal request whose fee has not been paid has no effect.
- Channel: The renewal request is created through EPATS by logging in with e-Devlet, Turkey's government services portal; payment can be made online within the same system.
- Afterwards: If the conditions are met, the renewal is recorded in the register and published in the Official Trademark Bulletin; the new 10-year term runs from the day following the day on which the previous term ended.
If the window has been missed, the same procedure can be carried out at the surcharged rate for six months from the expiry of protection; all of the scenarios are covered in our article on what happens if the deadline passes.
Renewal or a New Application? A Cost Comparison
The reasoning "the trademark has expired anyway, I will just file a new one" is wrong both on cost and on risk. For a two-class trademark at 2026 official fees:
| Item | Renewal | New application |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee (2 classes) | — | 2,820 + 2,820 = TRY 5,640 |
| Registration fee | — | TRY 7,010 |
| Renewal fee | TRY 8,730 | — |
| Official total | TRY 8,730 | TRY 12,650 |
| Similarity examination / opposition risk | None | Yes — if refused, the application fee paid is not recovered |
| Priority date | Preserved without interruption | Reset |
We examine the items of a new application in detail in Trademark Registration Fees in Turkey 2026. The bottom line is clear: renewing in time is, in every scenario, the cheapest option and the only risk-free one.
Three Realistic Ways to Save
- Renew at the start of the window. Early renewal causes no loss of rights and eliminates any chance of paying the surcharged rate. On its own, this is the most effective saving.
- Factor in the year-end increase. The fee schedule is updated every year and amounts generally rise. If your renewal window spans December and January, complete the procedure in December under the current year's schedule.
- Streamline the scope deliberately. For trademarks with more than three classes, some of which have not been used for years, partial renewal is a real saving — but the decision should be made by looking at future business plans, not only at today's bill.
The answer to how the renewal expense should be tracked in a company's books can be found in How Should Trademark Registration Costs Be Recorded in the Accounts?
Four Common Mistakes When Calculating the Fee
1. Counting the Classes from the Original Application
The fee is calculated according to the trademark's current scope as recorded in the register. The application filed ten years ago may have covered five classes; but if it was partially refused during examination or its scope was narrowed following an opposition, the register will show three classes today, and the amount payable is based on three classes. Always start the calculation from the register entry.
2. Expecting a Discount for a Single Class
The base fee is a single "up to two classes" amount. Renewing a single-class trademark costs as much as renewing a two-class trademark; there is no "half base" in the fee schedule. This also matters in the partial renewal decision: reducing two classes to one does not change the fee.
3. Not Separating the Items in "All-Inclusive" Quotes
Ask for the official fee and the service fee to be stated separately in attorney quotes. The official fee is the same with every attorney and goes to TÜRKPATENT; quotes can only be compared on the service fee. A quote that does not separate the items prevents you both from comparing and from checking it against the current fee schedule.
4. Paying the Normal Rate During the Surcharge Period
Paying the normal renewal fee after the term of protection has expired does not save the procedure; renewal in the grace period can only be carried out at the surcharged rate. Until the underpaid fee is made up, the request has no effect, and meanwhile the six-month grace period keeps running. If you are not sure which period you are in, first establish the protection expiry date.
Is There Government Support for Renewal?
The trademark-related support of KOSGEB (Turkey's Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organisation) is aimed at obtaining a domestic trademark registration certificate; renewal fees typically fall outside the scope of these programmes. Because the scope and upper limits of support programmes change from period to period, it does no harm to check the current programme conditions before renewal all the same. We explain the support available at the registration stage in detail in KOSGEB and Government Support for Trademark Registration.
Conclusion
In 2026 the official cost of renewing your trademark is TRY 8,730 for up to two classes, while the cost of delay is a difference of at least TRY 6,690 plus unnecessary risk. All three decisions that determine the cost — timing, scope and whether to use an attorney — are in your hands. The right approach is to treat renewal not as a payment squeezed in on the last day but as planned portfolio maintenance carried out once every 10 years.
