How to Register a Trademark for a Limited Company

Limited companies are one of the most common company types in Turkey, and registering a trademark protects one of their most valuable assets. This article explains how to register a trademark in a limited company's name and the advantages of doing so.

Why Register in the Company's Name?

Registering the mark in the name of a limited company (a legal entity) makes it a company asset. This is better suited to corporate accounting, company valuation, partnership arrangements and assignment processes. The trademark is then positioned as an intangible asset carrying value on the balance sheet.

What's Needed for a Limited Company Application?

A legal-entity application generally requires:

  • Company name and tax number
  • Trade registry details
  • Company address and contact information
  • A representation of the mark (word/logo image) and the goods/services list
  • A power of attorney, if filing through a representative

For the full list of documents, see Documents Required for Trademark Registration.

Personal Name or Company Name?

You can also register the mark as an individual; but if you run your business through a company, registering the mark in the company's name is more consistent both legally and financially. If you already registered it in your own name, you can later move it to the company by assignment. For more, see Registering a Trademark Without a Company.

How the Process Works

Registering a trademark for a limited company follows the same general process: search, correct class selection, filing, publication and registration. For the steps, follow our How to Register a Trademark guide.
